Applications of Climbazole in the Cosmetic Industry

Applications of Climbazole in the Cosmetic Industry

· Anti-itching

Climbazole’s role in anti-itching products is supportive, not primary and excels especially when the itching is fungal-related.

This component inhibits the growth of yeast that live on the skin scalp, which are major contributors to dandruff and fungal skin irritation, which present with itching.

Climbazole indirectly relieves itching by reducing fungal overgrowth caused by these contributors. It is commonly applied in lotions for seborrheic dermatitis and anti-itch creams.

· Anti-dandruff

Climbazole’s role in anti-dandruff products is core and well-validated. It works best when it’s paired with complementary antifungals or exfoliants.

This ingredient disrupts the cell membrane synthesis of Malassezia species and stops fungal growth, thereby cutting off the root cause of dandruff.

Key applications include anti-dandruff shampoos, leave-on scalp treatments, tonics, medical creams, or lotions.

· Shampoo

Climbazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, which is a crucial component of fungal cell membranes. Its main role in shampoos is to control the scalp’s fungal population formed from Malassezia restricta and Malassezia globose.

This component is an important ingredient in shampoos since there is always an even distribution on the scalp, making it work effectively.

· Shower Gel

In rinse-off products like shower gels, climbazole acts as an antifungal and anti-dandruff agent reducing fungal colonization on areas prone to overgrowth.

MalasseziaorCandida species which are causative agents of seborrheic dermatitis, tinea versicolor, climbazole kicks in and turns an ordinary shower gel into a skin health maintenance product.

· Anti-bacterial Soap

Many body odor and itch issues come from mixed microbial communities. Fungal control reduces microbial imbalance, which indirectly lessens bacterial proliferation.

Climbazole’s mechanism targets fungal cell membranes by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis hence attacking bacteria directly. It is therefore a good supporting ingredient in an antibacterial soap.

· Facial Care

In facial care, climbazole’s core function is anti-fungal and microbiome balancing.

It controls Malassezia and candida yeasts which contribute to fungal acne, oily skin irritation or recurrent flaking or redness in the T-zone.

When used correctly, climbazole helps rebalance the skin’s microbiomeandreduce inflammation caused by fungal overgrowth.

· Hair Growth Products

Malassezia yeasts, which is responsible for scalp inflammation, dandruff and itching leads to weakened scalp environment logged follicles, micro-inflammation, and excess oil.

This can trigger or worsen hair shedding. Climbazole targets this causative agent creatinga healthier scalp environment that allows stronger, more consistent hair growth.

Benefits of Climbazole

Benefits of Climbazole

There are many reasons why you should add climbazole in your cosmetic product formulations:

  • A good antifungal and antimicrobial which inhibits the growth of fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membrane formation.
  • Eliminates flakes caused by fungal overgrowth reducing itchiness, scalp irritation and dandruff control.
  • It creates a healthy scalp foundation for hair to thrive by reducing micro-inflammation that damages follicles.
  • Climbazole’s antifungal properties help in preventing fungal acne and reducing body odor.
  • It works synergistically with mild preservatives like phenoxyethanolorethylhexylglycerin enhancing the antimicrobial preservation system of cosmetic products.
  • Climbazole is less irritating, making it ideal for leave-on formulations like facial creams or scalp tonics.

Climbazole

How to Formulate

One of the most critical aspects in cosmetic product manufacturing is formulation. This ranges from the pH, quantity and working temperature.

First, use a solvent system to ensure complete dissolution then heat gently (60–70 °C) while stirring until clear solution forms with no visible particles.

In this pre-dissolving stage you can mix climbazole with:

  • Ethanol up to 25%+ Propylene Glycol up to 15%
  • Phenoxyethanol up to 10% + 10% of Butylene Glycol
  • Capric Triglyceride often oil based

Cool down your product base to prevent evaporation of solvents and ensure uniform diffusion then add the dissolved climbazole.

Next, continue to mix continuously using a propeller while you continue adding the climbazole in small increments. At the same time, check, measure and adjust the PH.

Note: Remember not to go beyond pH 4.5 to avoid skin irritation, then test for product stability, compatibility and quality control.

Concentration in % for different product formulations:

Product type Recommended concentration %
Anti-Dandruff Shampoo 0.3 – 0.5%
Hair products and hair conditioners 0.2 – 0.3%
Scalp Lotion 0.1 – 0.3%
Anti-Fungal Body creams 0.2 – 0.5%
Facial Creams and serums 0.05 – 0.2%
Shower Gel 0.3 – 0.5%
Antibacterial Soap 0.2 – 0.5%
Foot cream 0.3 – 0.5%

· Recommended pH for Formulation:

The ideal pH recommended in the formulation of climbazole is 5.0 – 5.5. this means the acceptable range is 4.5 on the lower side and 6.0 on the higher side.

Anything outside this window climbazole will begin to degrade especially in shampoos, tonics and gels,

· Formulation with Other Products:

Climbazole is soluble in alcohols, glycols, surfactants, and oils and insoluble in water. In surfactants, it dissolves and disperse evenly in shampoos or gels.

At the same time, it is also compatible with surfactants including Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside which are mild, pH-tolerant and remain stable at 5.0–5.5.

This stability allows climbazole to stay dispersed via micellar encapsulation.

In oils they are compatible with Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Polysorbate 60 or 80, and Capric Triglycerides.

These ingredients are nonionic emulsifiers, and stable in acidic conditions making climbazole maintain uniform dissemination.

However, it is important to note that climbazole is not compatible with ingredients that have high PH bases since they deactivate its energy

Strong oxides like hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide destroy climbazoles structure making them not compatible.

At the same time, reactive acids like glycolic acid that is more than 5% drops climbazoles PH making it unstable therefore not compatible.
