• 1% to 0.5% – It is a relatively low concentration that is suitable for serums, facial cleansers, and lotions. It is suitable for products that should be fast-absorbing, with improved flowability.
• 5% to 1.0% – Suitable for formulating gels and creams that require a thicker formulation. Additionally, it may also allow you to add suspension solid particles like exfoliating beads.
• 0% to 2.0% – Thicker facial masks and hair styling gels have higher concentrations of carbomer.

Compatibility with Other Cosmetic Ingredients

Carbomer is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients. However, it is important to note that the working mechanism of carbomer relies on the pH.

That is, you must add an alkaline cosmetic ingredient to uncoil carbomer polymer chains. In most cases, it works when the pH is between 5.0 and 10.0.

This implies you must control acidic cosmetic ingredients like the AHAs and BHA.

Ideally, carbomer is compatible with most surfactants. This may include non-ionic and anionic. Again, it effectively stabilizes oils and emollient cosmetic ingredients. This also includes humectants like polyols and glycerin.
